PBBM faces impeachment complaint in House

By Lorraine Ornido

An impeachment complaint was filed against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at the House of Representatives on January 19, 2026, accusing him of corruption, constitutional violations, and betrayal of public trust.

The complaint was filed by lawyer Andre R. de Jesus and endorsed by Deputy Minority Leader and Pusong Pinoy Party-list Rep. Jernie Jett Nisay. It cites six grounds for impeachment, including alleged budget irregularities, kickbacks linked to flood control projects, and failure to veto allegedly unconstitutional provisions in the national budget.

The filing also questions the administration’s cooperation with the International Criminal Court (ICC), which led to the transfer of former President Rodrigo Duterte to The Hague, an act the complainant claims violated due process. Other allegations raise concerns over the President’s judgment and accountability.

House Secretary General Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil confirmed that the impeachment complaint was formally transmitted to the Office of the House Speaker on January 20. This step is a required procedure before any impeachment complaint can move forward in the House of Representatives.

Once transmitted, the complaint may be referred to the plenary and then to the House Committee on Justice, which will determine whether it is sufficient in form and substance.

The House is expected to take action on the matter when sessions resume on Monday, January 26.

In response, Malacañang rejected the allegations, saying the President respects the Constitution and remains confident that Congress will handle the matter fairly and with integrity.
