Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) Students Jeff Angelo A. Galing and dancesport partners China Bonguet and Joseph Jabonite, brought pride and honor to the university as they ranked 2nd and 3rd place in the Poster Making Contest and Dance Sport (Modern Standard), respectively.
The results were announced during the Closing Ceremony of the 56th Founding Anniversary of ASEAN sponsored by Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region 8 held in Saint Paul School of Professional Studies, Palo, Leyte on August 30, 2023.
Jeff Galing, a BS Architecture student, ranked 2nd out of 22 contestants from public and private universities and colleges in the region.
โMy experience was great. I met new friends and co-artists. Iโve also learned new techniques and art styles from them,โ he said in an interview.
Galing also received a cash prize. As the President of Dagao Visual Arts Organization, he said he is eager to share a portion of this prize to the organization to further its goals.
Meanwhile, China Bonguet and Joseph Jabonite, both third-year students pursuing BS Business Administration and BS Community Development, respectively, achieved a remarkable feat by securing the 3rd place in the Dance Sports Modern Standard Category.
While both have extensive experience participating in various dancesport competitions, Bonguet said that this particular competition proved to be the most challenging they’ve encountered thus far.
โThe dancesport competition during the 56th ASEAN commemorative contests was actually the toughest so far. We know some of the competitors and got intimidated by them. Fortunately, we got the chance to enter the final round and were awarded as 3rd placer during the closing ceremony,โ said Bonguet.
NwSSU was among the top 3 HEIs of the aforementioned contests that commenced on August 18 at Don Remedios Trinidad Romualdez auditorium as part of CHEDโs celebration of ASEAN Month.
